Acknowledging other artists

Yes I know, I've been missing in action. I'll let you believe that I was so submerged in Etsy that I have only just come up for air. ;-)

I was just reading one of my favourite art blogs, Painting My World, by Lindsay Brackeen:

In her September 1, 2007 post, Lindsay writes:

"...By acknowledging my work, this woman gave me confidence & the shove I needed to pursue something I love. So almost 400 sold paintings later, I'm thinking of my beginnings, where I started, where I've come thus far, and where I plan to go...Where did your artful journey start?"

I'd like to ask you, dear reader, a similar question: regarding the first painting (or other visual artwork) you sold: who bought it, & under what circumstances?

Also, which artists do you support (by purchasing their artworks)?

The first painting I sold was to our music teacher of over a dozen years, Joan, a lady who is like a grandmother to our daughter. It was a commissioned pastel portrait of her late daughter. I am grateful to Joan for having such faith in me.

On my walls I have (original) paintings by: Sarah Larsen, Judy Vander-Have, Auda McLean, and Cathy McLean (Auda's daughter).

Your turn!

I've been thinking about doing this kind of post myself. Just have to get off my duff! (Meantime, I've completely ignored Etsy.)

I have yet to really sell anything, but then again I have not really put anything out there. I have given away a lot of things. I don't know that I am ready to sell. I am still very attached to many of the things I have done. I guess I will have to get over that when I open my Etsy shop.
Love Erin~

Thanks so much for your kind words regarding my art! I totally agree Etsy is the place to shop. When Christmas rolls around I plan on buying as many gifts as possible from the talented artists there...The last piece of art I bought was from Diane Duda, (she can be found on Etsy). My daughter was in love with one of her sweet drawings!

Hi Bronwyn:
Glad 2 C U R back.
And thanks for asking about our first piece of art sold.... I'm a retired commercial artist and I vividly remember when I was "discovered". While at art school, I'd won a prize for designing a poster for the National Anti-Vivisection Society and one of my profs put my poster in a display case. My future boss happened to be headed toward the art department to hire an artist to design educational materials and saw my poster and hired me. That one discovery/lucky break/hard-work lead to my working full time as a successful commercial arttist for 10+ years, mostly doing educational materials.
This is fun to talk about and I can't wait to see what other comments you generate :)
I own lots of art from other artists (stop by my blog to see my latest piece); but I've recently started collecting the ACEO's (art cards) from Ebay which are easy to store in notebooks. My walls have so many holes in them from hanging bigger art that we are going to have to get them re-plastered when we move!

Thanks for posting the link to Sarah's site because I can see why you own her work - it's beautiful and whimsical (my favs).
Bye,
Annie
